Special Needs Children Need Special Equipment
Children who have special needs usually need customized equipment. This equipment is usually very expensive and is rarely covered by insurance. Families who are struggling to pay for rising medical costs cannot afford the technical equipment for their children with physical challenges. Ryley Hufford is one of those children who struggles with a disability. Ryley suffers from many complications since birth. His parents were unable to care for him so Ryley is being raised by his grandparents, James and Cindy Hufford, who are retired military and on fixed incomes.
Ryley’s everyday expenses associated with his rare genetic disorder and multiple allergies are already stretching the limits of what his grandparents can afford. James and Cindy Hufford are simply unable to come up with the kind of money needed for special equipment on their own. All Things Possible is stepping in to help raise awareness and ask the community to join in this fundraising effort.
“The two pieces of medical equipment Ryley needs will cost approximately $6,500 in total.”
Insurance Companies Say Criteria Not Met
Children like Ryley Hufford who are born with genetic “hiccups” need special equipment in order to avoid dangerous surgeries and improve their quality of life as much as is possible. Unfortunately, proactive prevention of a life-threatening crisis does not meet the criteria for insurance companies or Medicaid to pay for this type of equipment. The same situation held true for the previous two children that All Things Possible Ministries assisted with equipment.

Percentage of Americans Who Give
Most of us have heard the saying that 20% of the people do 80% of the work. Statistically, it appears that the same holds true when it comes to giving. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that American households in the lowest 20% in terms of wealth gave on average a higher percentage of their incomes to charitable organizations than those households in the highest 20%. The cost of health insurance premiums has continued to rise, regardless of what type of insurance you have. This holds true for medical supplies and equipment as well. See statics below.
Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey
From 2013 to 2014, spending ratios increased dramatically for total health insurance (0.73 to 1.04) and for private health insurance (0.67 to 1.05).
Consumer Expenditure Survey (in Billions)
|Health Insurance, total||235.1||256.4||280.2||364.3|
|Medical supplies and nonprescription drugs||23.0||23.9||24.0||25.4|
